Interior designer Emma Buchan's strikingly modern family home Emma wanted her next home to be extraordinary - so she designed one from scratch and doubled down with another on the side. 
When interior designer Emma Buchan and her husband Ben began toying with the idea of expanding their quaint weatherboard cottage in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, it wasn’t until their architect pointed out they had enough room to build a duplex, that they entertained the idea of a knockdown rebuild.
“We found that idea attractive because of the promise of rental income on the other half," says Emma.
The couple were able to completely customise the home to suit the needs of their growing family. They included plenty of storage, decorated with colourful wallpaper and even created the ultimate black marble kitchen.
