When interior designer Emma Buchan and her husband Ben began toying with the idea of expanding their quaint weatherboard cottage in Sydney’s Sutherland Shire, it wasn’t until their architect pointed out they had enough room to build a duplex, that they entertained the idea of a knockdown rebuild.
“We found that idea attractive because of the promise of rental income on the other half," says Emma.
